Search Committee Named for Next Social Science Research Institute Director

As authorized by Provost Alec Gallimore, Vice Provost for Interdisciplinary Studies Ed Balleisen has appointed a committee to lead the search for Duke University’s next director of the Social Science Research Institute.

The search committee is chaired by Professor of Sociology Christopher (Chris) Wildeman. Other members of the committee are:

  • Pablo Beramendi, Professor and Chair of Political Science
  • Lisa Gennetian, Pritzker Professor of Early Learning Policy Studies, Sanford School of Public Policy
  • Hedwig (Hedy) Lee, James B. Duke Distinguished Professor of Sociology
  • Brian Murray, Research Professor, Nicholas School of the Environment; Director of the Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability
  • Jennifer Nash, Jean Fox O’Barr Professor, Gender, Sexuality, & Feminist Studies
  • Charmaine Royal, Robert O. Keohane Professor of African & African American Studies; Director of the Duke Center on Genomics, Race, Identity, Difference (GRID), a center within SSRI
  • Emily Ryo, Professor of Law
  • Sim Sitkin, Michael W. Krzyzewski University Distinguished Professor in Leadership, Fuqua School of Business; Director of the Behavioral Science & Policy Center (BSPC), a center within SSRI
  • Jessica Sperling, Assistant Professor in Medicine, General Internal Medicine; Director of Applied Research, Evaluation & Engagement in SSRI

The search committee has been charged with conducting a thorough search to identify a diverse pool of candidates for the position. Executive search firm Spencer Stuart will support the committee.
